I’ve flown many times over the years, and I still feel as though I haven’t mastered the ‘art of flying’. I tend to overdo my carry on and bring things that I never use: at least two books I think I’ll be able to progress in, three or four magazines, usually all of my makeup, my computer, and a fat binder in case I feel like writing.
There, I just caught myself … in case. I tend to get nervous that I’ll have wanted something that I didn’t bring and side on ‘bring everything’ rather than ‘practicality’. So, I really have to ask myself, ‘what’s necessary?’, and I’ve learned that I cannot focus on reading a book during a flight, that my iPod and a magazine are my best friends, wearing jewelry can be a drag through security, and that I don’t need all of my makeup to ‘touch up’ with.
Let’s go through some basic tips that I even need to apply to myself:
*Instead of jewelry, try a pair of sunglasses, hat, or wrap a scarf around your bag
*A cute pair a flats will help ease your way through security
*Pack a little makeup bag for the essentials: lipgloss/stick, powder, and a mini perfume
*Download a book – and even magazines – on your iPad, Nook, or Kindle
Don’t worry. Going light for a flight doesn’t mean you can’t look chic or that going light will shave off style. Please, don’t resort to the all-too-often-seen pajama look that floods airports. There are many ways to have an easy yet fashionable look, and below is an inspiration board that should help you visualize what I mean.
